Personality: Dark side: Harsh, ruthless, rough, almost crass, even. He doesn't really care for politesse, as the part of him that's supposed to care doesn't exist. Instead, he's awfully blunt and painfully honest. He hates bullshit and never beats around the bush. When people get screwy with him, he isn't one to refrain from using his fists. He's basically completely lacking in social skills, and there's much to life; the subtler things, connections to people, the values of life and friendship, all lost on him. He's creepy, intimidating, untrustworthy, irresponsible, does whatever the fuck he wants, whenever he wants to, never takes orders and never does something he's told he has to do. He's dangerous beyond what is normal for one person, and he has no filter whatsoever. He can be machine-like, and he often relies on logic to make sense of things because otherwise he can't understand it. Most of the time, he really just can't be bothered.

Light side: Gentle, calm, quiet, however often miserable, even if he hides it well. He seems at peace most of the time, and when he laughs or smiles it's full of hidden sadness, but people who don't know him don't see it. He has an air of wisdom, even though it's just an illusion, as with his existence, it's hard to learn from experiences and become bitter or jaded or cynical. He's open to getting hurt because of this. He appreciates the value of relationships but he's bad at keeping them. He often gives more than he gets, and he's frequently exhausted because of that. He doesn't know to shut himself away from people because, again, he doesn't know better. He just kind of goes with the flow. That fire, that spark to him just seems to be... Gone. Almost stolen.

Biography: A long time ago, in magical lands split by the common divide of darkness and light, there was a little boy that was witness to the murder of his own parents. At the fickle age of four, he stood, small and scrawny due to malnutrition–not his parents' fault, mind you, they worked hard, they just lacked the money to properly feed him–and watched as two men took the life of his father, followed by his mother. They came after him to collect a debt he owed, but he lacked the money to pay them back. The boy was well hidden, so they left without harming him. As the next day came, a great wizard, known as Aldred the Balanced, had been drawn to the negative energy and emotional distress, as well as subconscious telepathic cries for help that his instincts generated, as he was a gifted child. He went into the house and almost threw up at the sight and smell of carnage. Finally, he found the boy and brought him back to his home. He did everything he could to make him feel better, but soon enough, the boy seemed to have successfully suppressed the events. He grew up with the wizard, who raised him like a father. They were pretty close, and he taught him everything he knows. He encouraged him to read and always left him with two basic laws of life: Always strive to be different and never forget that knowledge can always help you.

The wizard, however, had a younger brother, Yael, who hated him because he was always better than him at what they were born to do. Their family came from a group, a sort of tribe of magicians, who were focused on nature and on creating a balance between light and dark magic. As you can imagine, they were branded as insane, heretics, and cast out. After a long period of time they became legend, scary bedtime stories parents use to terrify their kids into doing what they're supposed to. But, of course, they were as real as everyone else.

Years drag on, and Yael, jealous and bitter and obsessed, finally grown stronger and having learned a forbidden spell from a forgotten book he stumbled upon during his travels; his long search for something to destroy his older brother with, a book of dark, horrible spells that was buried far away from humanity to avoid any more trouble, came back. This book was what caused mishaps to people, even brought on plagues and pestilence to lands a long time ago. It grants its user great power, power no one should have. It was once the tool of a necromancer who almost wiped out all living humans and enslaved all dying things. He was buried with it, far off from the world of the great kingdoms, at the edges of a dying sea where the sand is black and nothing grows.

He learned one particular spell that was worst of all.

When he finally found his older brother's home that fateful night, using his dark magic minions to locate Aldred using his essence, which he had been gifted when the two were younger, in a crystal locket, just to keep him safe. He kept it because despite everything, he still secretly hoped to have a family. Until power consumed his mind.

So he finds the cozy little shack and knocks on the door. His brother opens it, and they begin talking.

"Hello, brother," but that's all. Before anything, Yael starts to attack. The older one, being the brother he was, only defends himself against it and refuses to attack back. So much so that his apprentice, basically his son, can't take it anymore, and jumps in front of his father to save him from the worst curse of all.

Once it hits him, he blacks out. The next day, when he wakes up... There's two of him.

Yael had successfully split his being in half, completely destroying the balance he was trying to achieve between his light and dark sides. He has one extremely evil dark side and one very good light side. The two part ways because they can't work together, especially since the dark one blames his father for this and attacks him. The light side thinks he succeeded in killing him and runs away, to one of the great kingdoms in the Convergence, where they all meet. They're closed off from each other, but they're not at war with each other.

Years later, the dark one walks alone, trying to find his other half, so they can become one again. They both ache for something, and it's obvious. Nothing is ever enough. They need to merge once more to ever feel whole again.
